FWIW: It doesn't sound to me like it was the local that posted that...I'm guessing it was a p!ssed off hiker that that was told to leave and is now trying to cause trouble, but either way...

Dosen't matter if it was posted by a "local"...the threat has been made and needs to be investigated....

This is an area of strength for this format:
We could actually use these boards for constructive purpose here, both avoiding speculation, gossip and innuendo and getting the message out about a sensitive situation.
Others can provide the detail (ahem, Mr. Metsky, I'd guess), but I know from earlier discussions that there is a land-use issue on this mountain involving a contiguous landowner and his property rights.
If this is what it seems, it may be advisable to alert users to be extra respectful of a local owner's environment.
Remembering it's all in good fun...,

Darren is the only one who can delete entries in the Trail Conditions section, and he will do so as soon as he is able. All we have is an anonymous posting on a section of the message board that is open to the world, it's hard to know what to make of it.
The status of the trail is, as far as I know, unchanged. The official WMNF policy is that the trail is closed. They ask hikers to stay off it. There is some contoversy if people have the legal right to hike along that section of trail under NH law. I have no opinion either way on that.
In the meantime, I'm going to close down this thread. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via email or PM.
