Came by way of the LOJ. Left at 5:50 am and was at trail up to lake tear by 9:00am. wash out section was a joke. Looked like a lake. Logs all over the place, some are bobbing up and down. dont know how I did it but I found a way through without getting wet. There are 2 sections of washout, so dont think you made it when you get past the first one. The 1.2 miles up to lake tear you gain 1000 feet. pretty constant grade with good footing. when you reach the lake you will see a cairn in the stream. a couple feet past that you will see rocks forming a trail across the stream. that is the trail to grey. I left my large pack behind and just took a water bottle and camera up. half way up I left my walking stick next to a rock becouse there are several flat rock sections that you will want both hands free to grab hold. nothing to scary though. excellent views up top 360 degrees. pumped water back down at the the lake and headed a few minutes down to 4 corners. Again left my pack and climbed to the summit of skylight. Fantastic summit and very large, dont forget your rock. My camera lens cap popped off and I got some sweat from my shirt on my lens . half my picture are blurred trip up grey is about 500 feet with some steep sections. Trip up skylight is easier even though it is 100 feet more. grey is "trailess" so it is not in good a shape as skylight. I planned on going back lake colden/avalanch pass way so I would have to go through that swamp agan. my map says there is a trail down uphill brook down to lake colden but I couln't find it. ( I looked at the book and realized I was "on" the trail. I thought I was heading towards cliff becouse one group was going to redfield and the took a left at the cairn. plus I was going uphill and thought I should have been going downhill). it is supposed to be by the lean-to but i went back and forth until I had to head back the way I came (that added a extra mile to my 19 mile hike ). once past the swamp you have a 700 foot elevation gain to deal with to get back to lake arnold. once at lake arnold it is down hill all the way. Got back to my car by 5:00pm (witha 1 hour stay on skylight and 15 minute stay on grey). As always that last mile to the LOJ is a long one
