Date Hiked: May 5, 2008
Trail Conditions: The road to Dacy Clearing from the Hogtown parking area is closed to motorized traffic. That part of the trail is dry, although rutted in spots. Once at Dacy Clearing the .8 mile section to the Sleeping Beauty turnoff is quite wet, with running water. The last mile to the summit is very wet and muddy, although there are some dry spots. Some sections of the trail are just running water/streambeds.
Special equipment need: None, I did the hike with approach shoes.
Comments: Due to the warm conditions, the black flies are out and in full force on the summit. Didn`t notice any in the cooler woods areas, but the parking area and summit were loaded with hungry black flies.
Factor in an additional 3.2 miles of walking the road round trip to Dacy Clearing and back as DEC still has the road off limits to cars.
