Couldn't get more beautiful. Temps were in the single digits at the base and probably below zero at the summit. Bluest of blue skies.Lots of traffic on the trail from slide parking lot. No need for crampons, stablicers or snowshoes. It was almost as if someone plowed it for us all the way to the top. 1 or 2 inches off either side and you were knee deep in snow
I've never hiked a catskill trail that was soo smooth on the feet. hard packed snow made it record time up and down...AWESOME...YAY....

Moderators' note: Actually, barebooters are destroying many of the Catskills trails. There have been trail reports by a number of VFTT members who've followed in the wake of deep, miles-long postholing - a situation in steep terrain that begs for a broken bone if falling into one going downhill. This particular trail has been beaten into a flat submission due to the amount of traffic the peak receives, but many Catskill trails are being ruined by barebooting. The trail to the other side of this same peak was a mess last Sunday due to people bare booting. Posting this as commentary due to the number of people who've complained about it and a non member seemingly encouraging people to leave their snowshoes in the car. While the Trip Report may only be refering to this particular trail, there is a concern that it will encourage others.
