trails: logging/atv roads, snow mountain trail

conditions: from route 27 13.7 miles from the junction of 16 in stratton we turned onto north road and followed in about 5 miles to its end. road was in good shape and passable by any vehicle. from there we followed an atv road in and shortly crossed a bridge on the left. the road was wet and muddy in spots. we continued on this road to a prominent junction with a sign reading "snow mountain trail". shortly after a sign sitting on the ground directed us towards snow mountain pond. there are two choices either of which will work. we went left on the way up then followed an overgrown logging road to the right up to its junction with the snow mountain trail. on the way down we turned left off of this road higher up onto an atv trail which dropped us back at the snow mountain pond sign. the snow mountain trail was easy to follow though still flagged with some blowdown and one interesting ledge scramble with a steep drop on the left. there is a bypass trail around this spot as well. the summit register is in a wooden bat box amidst the myriad of left over fire tower related items. the ladder on the tower provides great views in all directions for a modest climb up 10 feet or so.

equipment: nothing in particular.

comments: nice hike to finish up the so called "six pack" peaks. cool and breezy with great views from the ladder on the summit tower. most of the route had decent footing and made for quick walking. a good way to end a two day blitz of nehh peaks. thanks to mark for a couple of great days.
