I have not been out on the Tongue this fall, but I have been on either side of it in the last couple of weeks. Unless there has been a huge change in the conditions in the last 4 or 5 days there should be no snow. I was on the east shore doing the Black Mt loop three weeks ago, and we got 4-6” of wet heavy snow Sunday AM that made for a long wet hike out. I was on Treadway this past week in bright sunlight and no trace of snow. Temps were in the 60’s.
One note of warning, the trails are a mess of down trees and broken limbs.
The Grizzle Ocean lean to has two trees sitting on the roof and more blocking the front. From what I saw around Black Mt. I assume it is more of the same on the Tongue; at least you won’t have to worry about rattle snakes.

Second WBB's comments. I was on Sleeping Beauty two weeks ago, and there were patches of snow, perhaps 3-4 inches at most, near the summit. Nothing like the dump that the high peaks got. Temps have gotten warmer since then. Turning cold in the next couple of days, so it wouldn't hurt to throw in some instep crampons for insurance, but nothing further would likely be needed, and you probably won't need those. We encountered quite a few blowdowns, some showing evidence of trails around them, but generally clear.

I can only guess that similar conditions exist on the tongue, but I don't really know enough about how the weather works to be sure.

But don't quote me on this! :D

I was on Cat Mt about a direct line west of Tongue earlier this week and no snow to be seen anywhere in the area.

No Down trees or other hazards of note on the Cat Mt Trail. It begins on the Lake side of Valley Road two miles east of I-87 exit 24 well uphill from Bolton to give you an idea of location. The summit is a tad over 2000 feet.

Can't speak directly for the ADKs, but the Catskills got snow Thursday night, all the way down to the bottom of the mountains.

You again? :D

Are you going to Westkill tomorrow ? Are you joining us ?

I really don't have a good idea of the mountain conditions, but there are 2 inches down low (1500'), so I'd bet there is more up high. Hope this is not another 3 foot episode like 2 weeks ago in the DAX !
