I have the chance to get in a snowshoe run on Friday and was thinking about hitting Cannon and adding it to my Running 48 list. I will run up the ski trails if I have too but I would like to take some hiking trails. I was looking at taking the Lonesome Lake Trail all the way to the Kinsman Ridge Trail then taking that to the summit. I can deal with steep stuff and will hike at times, but I don't want to deal with any steep ice. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I used to enjoy ascending on the Hi-Cannon trail. It is steep in many places but many excellent views and exposure to ledges and cliffs. Descend down to Lonesone Lake via the Kinsman Ridge Trail for some incledible glissade opportunites. Great loop, enjoy.

It looks like there will be some fresh snow on the trails that likely won't be broken out during the week. The ski trails would probably be your best bet.

I'd love to try this on the Lonesome Lake trail with you but I have to be back in Exeter by 1:00 on Friday afternoon. Plus, I'd need a place to stay after the AFA show, and I don't want to invite myself to stay with you at Jess's place, so... it doesn't look promising.

You should plan to run fast as Cannon doesn't allow hiking on ski trails and will stop you if they can catch you :)

I think Hi-Cannon has the highest chance for ice, the others are more likely to be snow.

We did the Hi-Cannon trail last Saturday, up and down - no ice anywhere - bare booted the whole day. See our Cannon Trip Report with pics for latest conditons. There was lots and lots of snow, but a well broken trail. No issues even on the cliffs and ladder section.

Went up Lonesome Lake Trail to Kinsman Ridge Trail and up to Cannon on Jan 30th. There was a short, steep, icy section on the KRT that I wasn't going back down! Not very experienced with ice though. So I went down the ski trails and back to Lafayette Place on the bike(snowmobile) path. Maybe I'm just to cautious!?

I think a better(?) run might be from Lafayette Place to the Kinsmans...if you want something in that area...good luck!
