Trail Conditions: At the gate, a thin hard layer of snow mixed with bare ground and ice. A bit higher no bare ground and just a dusting of fresh snow in the middle of the roads between the tire tracks. Looks like the road s had been driven on recently. No downed trees
Special Equipment Required: Yaktrax may have been helpful & saw some yak tracks in the snow cover. Thin balaclava covering my face allowed for a 10-15 minute break at the summit tower. Winter clothing as temps were single digits and a wind in the low teens added to the chill.
Comments: Optional - High cloud ceiling from this peak near the CT MA border allowed for stellar views. Could see Monadnock, barely, and Wachusett with the Holyoke's close by with Toby & Sugarloaf visible around Norwottuck's summit. To the northwest, what appeared to be Greylock lurked far away but barely visible. Tomorrow will head to Wachsetts.
