south and middle carter 1/19/05

no hot water here so i called my boss and i went hiking instead. got a real alpine start, 1 pm. 3 pm on south carter. 3:32 on middle, 4:06 back on south carter and down at 5:30. gorgeous day but cold and windy, snowed the last hour and a half. trail still broken, not that there is much snow anyways. brooks are frozen over pretty much now, which helps. there is a 20 foot ledge on the way to middle that was hairy to slide down, all ice with little snow on it, coudlnt go back up it, went around thru the woods. I would have taken some pictures but it was pretty cold and windy as heck up high so I didn't feel like baring my fingers.

I remember that ledge; there was just enough ice for our crampons to find purchase as long as we stepped carefully.

You did a back-and-forth in 4-1/2 hours what we did as a loop in 8-1/2. Wow. I know it changes the mileage and elevation somewhat, but that's a *huge* difference. I feel diminished...

laffs..its not a race. I don't know whats wrong with me. You guys probably got to enjoy the views more.

Yeah, right. What was I thinking. I wasn't struggling to take the next step. Right. Yup. Never...
