Circle Trail packed at bottom, but I put on my Tubbs a short way up as I was sinking a couple inches. Took a left at junction up South Baldface. Didn't stop at shelter (a winter first) as the temps were uniform (warm!) and no need for more layers. Had to wear snowshoes up the slabs, no way around it. Sank in a lot. On top of bare ridge took them off and walked carefully as lichen on rocks wet and slippery. Put snowshoes on again at junction with Baldface Knob trail, and was on top soon.
Descending ok, but the steep part above shelter was like the theater of the absurd, sinking in and sliding on mush and grabbing branches. On the lower trail my old tracks partly melted, brooks twice as high as on the way up.
Fine solitary day, after voting. Ascent and descent not possible without snowshoes. Sharpening my crampons for next week.
