Itinerary : Highway 113 - South Baldface Shelter - South Baldface - Baldface Knob - Slippery Brook Trail.
Trail Conditions: Slight crust all the way. Trail opened to the shelter. Because of possible avalanche risk on the snow-filled ledges above the shelter, our group stayed on the left, in scattered trees, until we reached the plateau above the steep section, where we rejoined the trail.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes all the way, with an ice axe on the steep section. With a change of conditions (e.g. rain + freezing, or less snow) undoubtedly crampons would be essential - better carry everything.

Comments: Challenging depending on conditions. We had intended to do the complete Baldface Circle Trail, but decided to return via Slippery Brook because of the prospect of having to open the trail (+ find it!) all the way from South Baldface.
Highway 113 full of huge "frost heaves" - need good shocks!
Recommended outing!
