South Baldface, Baldface Knob, Eastman Mountain via Baldface Circle Trail, Baldface Knob Trail, Eastman Mountain Trail, Slippery Brook Trail

Date of Hike: Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Trail Conditions: Dry ground, mud, spring snow

Special Equipment Required: None

Comments:

From trailhead to Baldface Shelter, Baldface Circle Trail is mostly dry and in good shape - recent work has been done on the waterbars. No blowdowns. First set of scramble ledges above shelter were wet, but dry thereafter. Three patches of snow, 1-2' deep, probably about 10' long each, above 3,000.

Baldface Knob Trail in good shape, one small patch of snow.

Eastman Mountain Trail had two tiny patches of snow that could be avoided. I cleared most of the blowdowns, but a few easily avoidable ones remain.

Slippery Brook Trail had a few small patches of snow near the top of the ridge and numerous blowdowns up there as well (though none too bad). Trail is a bit muddy near the brook crossings. Brook crossings no problem.

Bugs were pesky on the summits (houseflies?), but not overly bad elsewhere.
