South Carter, Middle Carter, Carter Dome, Mt. Hight via Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, Carter Dome Trail, Carter-Moriah Trail

Date of Hike: Sunday, April 5, 2009

Trail Conditions: Spring snow, mud, frozen granular, blue ice

Special Equipment Required: Light traction

Comments:

Nineteen Mile Brook Trail to Carter Dome junction - barebootable. Fairly solid monorail, with lots of small, open muddy patches.

Carter Dome Trail to Zeta Pass - water crossings are open but rockhoppable. I wore snowshoes, but others seemed to do just fine with light traction. Mostly monorail. One blowdown.

Carter-Moriah Trail to South Carter - Mostly monorail...I wore snowshoes, but light traction would probably be okay. A few blowdowns.

Carter Moriah Trail to Middle Carter - Mostly monorail...I wore snowshoes, but light traction would probably be okay. A few blowdowns.

Carter Dome Trail to Carter Moriah Trail to Carter Dome - Some monorail, no blowdowns, light traction adequate.

Carter Moriah Trail to Mt. Hight - A bit hard to follow in places. Snowshoes a good idea.

Carter Moriah Trail back to Zeta Pass - Some blue ice, some frozen granular, not much monorail until near the junction with Carter Dome Trail. No blowdowns.
