Saturday morning, june 9 2012, we arrive at the 19 Mile Brook Trail parking lot at 8:00. It is already almost full and we are lucky there is only 3 parking spaces. Just before reaching the parking lot, Annie told me that she would like to see a moose. A minute later, I said "Look to the right, here is your moose" Her wish comes true. And after we passed the moose disappeared.
The Nineteen Miles Brook Trail a super nice trail along a superb brook and has a strong current with several superbs falls. Then we take the Carter Dome Trail, which also begins along a brook also. Throughout, there are no views of the surroundings. But the brooks with waterfalls are so beautiful. Reached the summit of South Carter, we have a small trail that leads to a super nice view of Hight and the Wildcats. Then we went around Hight, and to see what path to get to Carter Dome. We arrive on Carter Dome, we are alone but not for long. Then we descend to Carter Notch Hut, we visit it and meet the person in charge. After a few minutes rest one starts toward the parking lot.
I think doing this loop clockwise, the way we did, is the best way to do these two peaks or only to do Carter Dome.
In summary, a lot of talking and many wonderful encounters on the trail. Especially our meeting with Mike (NH Tramper), with whom we spent a good part of the day. We had, Annie and I, nice and interesting discussions with Mike.
And FOR those who wondered why there were so many hikers Quebec Saturday, there were 300 who were there for the 3rd edition of the Challenge Fousderando. All this to raise money a good cause.
