Trail Conditions: Nineteen Mile Brook Trail indeed the packed out superhighway others had mentioned..beautiful and flat with the occaisional open water course running through. Carter Dome Trail a little softer but well packed just the same. Approaching Zeta Pass the wind really picked up and trail obscured by drifted snow..Carter Moriah trail alternately packed out and up to knee deep drifts. Brook crossings on Carter Dome trail ok though a high bank coming off the top one.
Special Equipment: Winter gear for sure today.. I used Katooluh 10 points to the pass and snow shoes across the ridge.
Comments: Nice winter day in the Whites.. While Nineteen mile was certainly bare bootable I was quite comfortable with some traction control for the steeper spots..Gusty winds approaching the Pass and across over to the summit blew enough snow to obscure my tracks in many places though the base was firm.. Cloud level and resulting snow squalls came in just as I descended the summit and the cloud deck followed me down to Route 16. Higher summits were open until noonish and the views were excellent...
