trails: road walk, bushwhack

conditons: we drove in corser brook road, west of errol on rt. 26, for about 6.1 miles then turned left onto greenough pond road for 2.5 miles then right (straight) onto roaring brook road for .5 where we parked at the junction of another road with a camp at the corner. roads were snow and ice covered and 4 wheel drive, decent tires and careful driving are all necessary. from where we parked we followed the log road to the right until we came to a prominent cut on our left that we headed up trying to stick to old skidder roads. we crossed a shoulder then hit the woods heading up towards the summit. woods were generally good up to the more southerly false bump then a bit of blowdown to a sag before more good going to the summit. up to six inches of powder snow in the woods. we went more direct on the descent instead of going back across the ridge and found mostly good woods hitting the road west of where we headed up earlier. we crossed a couple small brooks on the way which were not an issue other than a bit of ice.

equipment: blaze orange highly recommended.

comments: a cold and very windy day in the woods. around the summit we could feel the root systems of the trees moving under our feet when heavy gusts came through. spooked a deer on the way up and noted a bit of sign down low. nice hike.
