This adventure falls under the category of "What was I thinking?".
I was hit with the desire to go hiking and e-mailed a few fellow hikers about hiking the Moats. They either had plans, or thought I had finally gone nuts. The only cacher I got a positive response was from CindersMom (thanks guys).
We took turns breaking trail in 6-10 inches of powder at lower elevations and 10-20 inches at higher elevations with an occasional thigh deep drift. It took 3+ hours to travel 2.5 miles.
The Moat Mountain trail is now broken to approx .25 miles from the South Moat summit.
CindersMom summed up the trip with the comment "you take 3 steps and still haven't gone anywhere".
Snowshoes and poles are a must.
