South Moat Mountain via Moat Mountain Trail
Date of Hike: Saturday, April 5, 2008
Trail Conditions: Spring snow, slush, bare spots
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes
Comments:
Parking lot continues to be plowed.
While there are some bare spots popping up on the trail (in wet spots, as well as some of the ledgy areas), there is still plenty of snow for snowshoeing.
Three blow downs, all avoidable. I debranched the trail best I could.
First brook crossing can be stepped over, second one has the wooden bridge, other seasonal ones popping up but easily stepped over.
If you intend to do this hike this spring, do it ASAP or else you'll be waiting until May - I could hear water rushing under the snowpack for significant portions of the trail.
