south weeks via priscilla brook trail & bushwack. while attempting to do north and south weeks from fish hatchery a couple of years ago, we hit deep snow and could only get to north weeks. now, wanted to get to south weeks but did not want to pack the miles on and go over north weeks again. this time, started hike on Priscilla brook trail. parking for about 2 vehicles on opposite side of ingerson road. path starts just before bridge sign. followed wet old path/logging road for about 1 1/2 miles. this part of the path is mushy wet and soggy, even though weather has been typically dry. when the path disappeared, I stayed on a north easterly direction until I hit 3350 feet. from there I headed north and approached the kilkenny ridge trail in the col between waumbek and south weeks. once hitting the ridge trail, took a right and was at south weeks viewless peak in about 35 minutes. once the bush wack part started, there were lots of ferns and hobble to contend with. would not of been so bad, but it had rained out the day prior, and also had 2 passing showers while I was in the woods. a failed test for the hiking boots. boots were so wet that I had to wring out my socks at the top before heading back down. down was quicker. already wet so it did not matter what I stepped in. this trip was no short cut due to the blowdowns and hobble while doing the wack. I believe a shorter route would be do go into Priscilla brook trail for about a mile, then take a heading to waumbeck and pick up the ridge trail from there. for more info on that route, see what krobi posted for the waumbek bushwack. thanks krobi for sharing your info with me ahead of time on this one. first 1/3 of the hike, there was misc flagging. I lost that flag trail after a while. I think it was flagging heading to pliny. I also came across misc flagging on the upper part of the wack. seems like someone else had been through the same piece of woods except the flagging beared off from my pre planned waypoints so I did not try to follow. on the lower portion of the trail, there are still markings that I believe are from when the piscilla brook trail was being used more often, or when it was part of the old upper ammonoosuc trail.
