We were able to easily drive the gravel Caribou Valley/Pond Rd. up to the steel bridge, where there was a wooden stake in the middle of the road, so we parked there...only a 10-15 minute walk up to the AT anyway...at the large crossing we had to wade (crocs) as the plank was not in place for the crossing...we were able to get it back into place for following hikers and for our return...misty conditions with even snow pellets lead us to hit Spaulding first and we had minimal views; back to Sugarloaf and the clouds lifted for the nice view..however very windy conditions and we did not last long on the summit. Just a few step over go under blowdowns, mainly on the AT headed from Sugarloaf over to Spaulding. Side trails in good shape...we ran into a couple of VT hikers, aspiring HPQueen and Fiddlehead and hiked out with them...fun hikers and very knowledgeable; couple more Maine peaks for Rodney!!
