The Starr King rd was plowed and sanded up to the last house. It appeared to have been previously plowed up to the summer lot and I have no doubt that a 4WD could have continued on up to the summer lot. In fact I suspect that a FWD could have made it as the new snow was very light and fluffy but I decided not to push it so I parked in the winter lot which had been plowed.

The trail was covered with about 3" of fresh light powder. It was in good shape underfoot and it was very easy to break trail. In fact Lauky led the way all day.

The snow pack was deep enough to cover all the rocks and the trail was very smooth. There was a small amount of drifting between the peaks but nothing significant.

The trail is well packed out now and one could choose to use almost any type of footwear from bareboots, to spikes to crampons to snowshoes. There are a couple of short stretches where there were some partially hidden post holes --bare booters beware-- but for the most part the trail was quite smooth.

The moderate, smooth descent from Starr King was very fast. You'll be surprised how fast you get out.

Found a hat on the hood of my car when I returned. I took it with me. If the owner will contact me I'll be glad to send it home.
