Equipment: snowshoes mandatory
Since there were only 2 of us on this hike, we were hoping not to have to break trail, but one glance at the trailhead dispelled that myth. Only small , sparce indentations were visible to mark the trail. There was 9-12" of snow and more where the drifts were. We struggled until just before the soft-wood section of the trail, and then happily saw two fellow hikers coming up behind us. They were very appreciative of our breaking, and proceded to break most of the rest of the trail to Starr King summit. They continued on to Waumbek.
Acutally, a great day. Thanks Bob and Mike, and as always, Diane
