Does anybody have any info on what the status of the valley west of Snowy Mt is? Looks like it could be a great ski trip. From what I can tell from a little online reasearch is that the Nature Conservancy now owns that area but there's little info on what the current policy is concerning public access. Has anybody whacked around in there? How far in is the road to the Cedar River Flow maintained in the winter? Anybody access the Squaw Brook valley from the Cedar River Flow or any other routes? Thanks in advance for any input. Buddy

The road in is maintained to a point about 2 miles from Cedar River Flow. You can use snowmobiles to access the Cedar River Flow, but any farther south is Wilderness so you're on your own feet past that point. There is an old road up Little Squaw Brook from the Carry Lean-to on the Cedar River, but it hasn't been maintained in years, and you must cross the Cedar River to get to it.

New York State is in the process of negotiating an easement in the Squaw Valley area. Last I heard, the area was not going to be opened up for public access, with the exception of a right-of-way to access state land from Route 30.
