trails: herd paths, bushwacks
conditions: left rt. 16 onto parmachenee road which we followed to magalloway road (112) to smith pond road (5) to road 20 then onto road 143. followed 143 to the height of land between stub and north stub parking must beyond where the road ends. this can also be approached from rt. 3 starting on the other end of magalloway road which was well signed. knowing there was supposed to be a herd path/trail we followed an old wet road in the direction of stub hill soon leaving it for drier woods and a bushwack to stub hill pond. at the pond we noted the herd path/trail back to the height of land which we followed on the descent. from the pond to the summit of stub hill it was a relatively short bushwack with non continuous herd path through mostly open woods. once on the summit ridge there was a good herd path leading right to the recognized summit. once back to the vehicle we headed north on a herd path through old open cut areas then into thicker woods towards the summit of north stub hill topping off a bit west of the summit. from there to the recognized summit there was a fair amount of blowdown and some views back towards stub hill. on the descent we went direct from the highpoint starting off in thick woods then more open woods back to the open cuts lower down.
equipment: navigational tools of choice.
comments: a couple of nice bushwacks. some good views south and west from near the summit of stub hill. woods were generally nice and the pond was a particularly pretty spot.
