I thought about adding a winch, seems like a good option. Can you describe or tell what kind you went with?
I have a hand winch aka come-along which I bought decades ago to pull engines out of cars using reinforced roof trusses in my garage. I bought some tow straps from ebay or amazon or walmart online. And I purchased the tow hooks for the car which it did not have, being built in Mexico so they were not needed to tie it down in some ship. I forget what I needed to ensure that the winch and the tow hooks would connect. I also added 2 boards, the longest that would fit crosswise in the hatch area, to bridge small gaps in the road as might be needed. I also have a reel of steel cable with the clamps to make temporary loops, which is not in the car. That was purchased to move trees around when the chain saw operator (me) failed to drop the tree in the correct spot. Whatever you do, be aware that cables and straps under tension can do a lot of damage if they release while under load, and you are one of the objects that could be damaged. Similarly getting pinned by the vehicle being released unexpectedly can also create a very bad day, quite possibly not recoverable.
