Good story in this morning's Albany Times Union on New York's often-forgotten mountain range. Good place to go if you're looking to mix it up a little.
Nice article, having moved to Lenox and now Pittsfield, I'm pretty close to the TCT and find it a great place to trailrun, hard quartzite and very moderate grades, nothing steep like the ADKs, Catskills, or even greylock. There are some muddy spots and some ATV usage in spots but it is close to home. Berlin Mtn is a great hike and has an awesome view of the west side of Greylock and almost 360deg views from the bald summit.
It is a pretty cool area. All things considered, I haven't explored the Northern Taconics as much as the Southern Taconics, but I have been up Berlin Mountain and did a cool mountain bike ride in Pittsfield State Forest last year that took me up to the crest from the east side. I'm out that way frequently for work these days so that's probably why the article caught my attention.
