A quick report:

Trail HARD packed. We met 'B the Hiker' and friend, and talked them out of wearing snowshoes! If you know me, that is RARE!

Temps below 0 till we got back down, just a breath of wind, glorious clear skies. 2.25 hours up, 1.1 hours down, to warm up! :D

4 peaks this weekend, making a total of 6. Woohoo, only 42 to go! :D

So my friend Jen (I forget her Views name--it's "Something Sage": Hiking Sage, Russell Sage, Rosemary and Sage, something like that) and I had a lazy start to the day after spending the long weekend at Subsig and closing down the cabin.

Got to the trailhead around noon and had no sooner put on our snowshoes then Tom and his wife came down and suggested we put them away and go up in microspikes. I always worry about postholing and ruining a good trail, but no fears yesterday, since, as Tom noted, the trail was PACKED. Microspikes were the perfect footwear.

They were making snow on the trail at the overlook, and we took some neat shots of the snow making machine loudly spitting out snow.

It was COLD! But no wind, and that made all the difference. The air was crystal clear and what views we had were excellent. Still, it meant quick breaks bundled in big puffy jackets and even my Alti Mitts.

The trail is currently in excellent condition.

Did you check out the two view points on the Sosman trail? Well worth the trip.
We were there last time, but we skipped it this time. We were trying to keep moving to warm up. We blasted down the first vertical 700' in 15 minutes! The butt sliding index was marginal, but I got a few runs in! :D

Hi Tom,

Looks like a great trip up Tecumseh. Like many, it's not one of my favorites...but I can imagine it is a lot more fun to hike in the winter time. Did you make your way in from the ski area or Tripoli Road?

@Paradox - The Sosman was definitely my favorite part of this hike when we climbed it last September...very nice woods landscape too!

Congrats on Tecumseh being number 6!

We started at the WV Ski Area, they let you park right next to the trailhead if you ask nicely, and free.
