Trail conditions: well packed out and frim in the morning.. First brook crossing open but the others had mid season snowbridges.. Middle section from the "view" to the top of the lifts packed off solid by ski traffic..upper sections loose snow on packed base..A couple of duck under blowdowns
Equipment...Traction of some sort required.. very solid this morning so our group started with stablicers, katooluh 10 points, and crampons for the ascent which all worked reasonably well..snowshoes would have been overkill. On the descent the stablicers were a little slick..when we reached the open woods down below the snow had softened enough that we changed to snowshoes
Comments: Had aspired to go higher today but howling winds this morning and a general.."I want it to be spring" feeling made this mild hike a wise choice.. First choice, the Carters, was nixed after weekend report and the high wind warnings..Mid winter conditions pretty much on the ascent though thankfully most of the snow is now off the trees. The views from the elevated summit area were spectacular..a word you don't usuallly associate with tecumseh viewpoint...but very nice and we lounged a bit in the sun peering east and north.
