The Brothers Grimm were of course the famed German folklore collectors who brought us such stories as Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel and Rumpelstiltskin. They perhaps were not 'grim' at all. Maybe they were happy too. I hope so.
While I realize that on this site there is nothing particularly unusual about climbing Mt. Washington. I share it with you because it was an unusually special and happy time for me.
I have a "little brother" ten years younger than I. We used to hike together in the Catskills and the Adirondacks. We also did the Grand Canyon a couple of times many years ago.
Our lives carried us many miles apart as my wife and I lived for over thirty years on the other side of the Atlantic. In 1990 my brother Steve and his wife came for a visit and we were able to do some hiking in the French Alps. We haven't hiked together since then.
This past week he drove up from Maryland so we could do Mt. Washington together. I took Tuesday off and we headed off with my "little guy" on what turned out to be an absolute pristine day.
Following are simply a few pictures of what was a very memorable hike for both of us.
The traditional summit photo of the 'Brothers Happy' and the 'Little Guy'.
