Parked at 19 mile trailhead and walked down to camp Dodge to take the old logging road to the Imp trail. I hadn't done it before but had read about it. Unfortunately, no one told me that there is more than one old logging road leaving Camp Dodge. When I got into the camp the road split and I took a guess and turned right. At the end of the camp sure enough there was a logging road in good condition. I followed it until it ended at a stream. Very quickly I picked up another and followed it for a while until it disappeared. :( At that point I knew I had made a mistake, so I simply bushwhacked over to the trail. The rest of the day I followed the trails without any problem.

The upper section of the Imp trail and most of the North Carter trail are fairly wet. The Carter-Moriah trail has the usual bogs which were easily passed. The Carter-Moriah trail down from Carter Dome was mostly dry. The 19 Mile trail down to the trail to Zeta Pass was quite wet. After that the trail was fairly dry The lower section of the 19 Mile trail is fairly smooth under foot. Except for the bush whack I don't remember any blowdowns on the entire loop.

There was a bit of snow above 4500' The temperature dropped below 40* in the morning, but rose to about 50* on the 19 Mile Trail on my way out. The views from Mt. Height were spectacular, but you had to be careful when taking pictures not to get blown off the rocks.

In all today, we went over Middle Carter, South Carter, Mt. Height and Carter Dome.

A young fellow came running by me on the Carter Moriah trail. All he was carrying was a hydration pack. I asked him where he was going and he said:
"Georgia."

I found out today that the secret to the Camp Dodge shortcut is to take the left branch in Camp Dodge marked "Staff". At the end of the camp you keep to the left of the building and continue straight ahead. It's an easy walk through mostly grassland. I was told not to take a trail that veered sharp left.

It was a beautiful day on the trails. :)
