In this gorgeous weekeeeen,
Junior and Alain made a couple of mountains.
03-18: 9 hours round trip.
From the Garden, Haystack-Basin-Saddleback, perfect snowshoes tracks to the Marcy-Haystack junction, many snow waves but over a good support after, We bypassed Little Haystack by the right, the snow on Haystack was hard without icy place,
We broken the trail in around 6 inches of dry snow to Basin, around 18 inches before We catched skis tracks near the Basin shoulder, this skis tracks (probably Racine?) came from the col Basin-Saddleback.
With the snow and ice in the Saddleback rocky place, We take the decision to go up by the new slides (Floyd) more in East side of the usual way. It was a bad idea!! We are some troubles, after We realised it with too dangerous to take a chance in step rocky place, We turned back with difficulty to go down. We are very happy to have iceaxe and to learn last summer in Rainier & Hood to play with this toys!!!
We need to made a couple of steps in a icy wall to catch the Saddleback summit!!!
Perfect snowshoes tracks from the top to the Garden.
03-19, 9 hours round trip!!
