After an amazing Seek the Peak weekend we really wanted to get in one more hike before heading for home on Monday. The forecast was good, the logistics were right and there was one more president to be visited on our list - Mt Jefferson. We hiked the Caps Ridge Trail on a perfect day and for as wonderful as our hike was on Mt Adams on Saturday this one was equally fantastic. There are few things better than being above treeline in the Presidentials on a picture perfect summer day. Read on for the story and all the pictures.

Mark,
What better way to end your weekend than summiting another 4000 footer.
The Caps Ridge Trail is more challenging than some; considering the short mileage and elevation gain to the top. Love the rock scrambles! You did great. Can't figure out what that hiker had in mind coming down the one cap in your photo. Who knows, maybe one day you'll get to take on the Huntington Ravine Trail. That one has been on our list for a long time now.

I am sure you both are looking forward to Acadia.....We have friends there this week who we've talked to. Making us wish we were going there too.
But fall in the White Mountains is the best time for us to hit the 4000 footers.

Donna:)

I read your blog, very nice report and helpfull. I havent been up there in years but next week, Im taking my sister up that very trail. She is brand new to hiking and I know she will love the hike. By the way, want to feel renewed energy for hiking, take someone new who loves it, it rekindles all that we take for granted.

Thanks everyone. We definitely enjoyed this this one a LOT!

una_dogger - nice seeing you last weekend. Looking forward to seeing the new pup

Kevin - can't think of a better way to spend a Monday. Wish you guys could have stuck around and joined us

Donna - definitely right about Caps Ridge being tougher than the stats suggest. Happily it's also equally more fun! I agree about not knowing what that other hiker was thinking on the Cap 2 ledge. In addition to being extremely steep and smooth in that spot there was also a bunch of loose dirt on the rock. Acadia two weeks from today! Woohoo! Counting the days. Jamie is visiting College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor while we're there. Would be pretty cool if she wound up there are we had many more excuses to visit Acadia ;)

sierra - enjoy the hike with your sister. Hope you get as nice a day as we had! You're so right about getting out there with new enthusiastic hikers too.

surf88 - thanks for the complement on the blog. Just visited yours for the first time this morning. Nice! I'll be going back and catching up on some of the older posts for sure.
