Decided to do the Hancocks Saturday. It was going to be a beautiful day and even though these don't have the greatest view in the whites, we chose the Hancocks.
The trail starts out fine. Once you get onto the Cedar Brook trail, parts of that are very muddy and wet but only for a section of it. We went up the north slide. Steep but fine. Lots of water crossings but all easy.
The outlook on the north side gave us nice views.
The walk over to south Hancock was pretty. Lots of greenery. I always thought this ridge was pretty. Saw a grouse walking down the middle of the trail. That was nice.
South Hancock summit was also treed and the outlook wasn't as good as the north side but was fine. After a nice break, we headed down the south slide. 5/10 of a mile never seemed so long. The trail is steep with a lot of loose rocks. We were careful and did fine.
No special equipment needed other than the norm.
