This is a trail that get gradually rougher under foot as you go up. The first half mile is very smooth. The next mile is rougher but still a logging road. Once past the Bald Peak trail, the trail is a foot trail with lots of roots and rocks and very slippery under the present conditions.
The three major streams have diminished in volume since Steve's post Sunday and all three were rock hopable today. There is not a blowdown on the entire trail including the Kinsman ridge trail.
Mud was the order of the day. There are a couple of muddy patches up to the bald peak trail. As you continue on through the flat section after the Bald Peak turnoff, there is a lot of mud. As the trail steepens there is not much mud, but watch out for the slippery rocks and roots. There is a lot of mud and water between the two peaks. A pile of lumber stacked in that area would seem to indicate that new bog bridges should soon be forthcoming.
The day was not as nice as promised, but at least it didn't rain and it wasn't hot. All in all we made surprisingly good time.
