'the nubble' is listed in the NEHH, but i can't find any reference to it in all my books, and haven't seen much mentioned about it in these posts lately. Anyone care to enlighten me.....i swore i was done with lists after NH 48, but i have been sucked back in although the Maine peaks in NEHH will remain elusive for quite sometime. thanks in advance..ct sparrow, sue

And don't confuse it with our Nubble in the Adirondacks (the "Giant's Nubble"), which is a lovely little hill on the SW side of Giant. It's by no means on anybody's highest list, but it gives you a great view for an easy half hour hike!

And if/when you do the Peak Above, be sure to scamper up the Nubble itself for a great view of your objective.

See our trip report from May 2004 for some information. I think regardless of how you go you are likely to run into thick Spruce - long sleeves/pants are in order so be mindfull about the heat if you attempt this during the Summer months.

PAtN Trip Report

The "traditional" route is from the Gale River Road side over Haystack Mountain, but you can check my report (fourth of Dr. Wu002's links above) for an easier approach. I followed Frodo's report from the winter (not linked by Dr. Wu, so you'll have to check the New Hampshire Trail Conditions).

You can now drive up Haystack Road, so you won't have to park by the Seven Dwarfs Motel. I don't know how far you'd have to walk back from the parking lot to reach the side road you'd want to take (should you follow my/Frodo's route).

DRitter did it the day after I, so his report should be back there, too.

You can park at the beginning of the side road to Haystack at the road shoulder, note that the side road is closer to Rte 3 than to the Twins trailhead
