OR...."lovin' the televator" with apologies to Aerosmith.

Marty and I hit the Greeley Ponds trail on MLK Day to tackle the Osceolas.
It was a great weather day....moderate temps and no wind!

This isn't a very long trip. Only 7.6 miles. But it kicked my butt! I think the steep sections were even more strenuous than usual due to the snow, which was extremely loose. In hindsight crampons may have been a better choice on the steep sections up both summits, but we made it. I believe it was just above the bypass that we were trying to come up with lyrics to songs that we could adapt to exclaim our love for the televators on our snowshoes.

"Lovin' the televator's" was all I could come up with, but Marty had a bunch, which I hope he will add!

Nice tr Jason! Looks like you bagged a perfect day. Had the trail been used much lately and was it broken through the chimney as well? Nice pics!

Thanks Dave Bear. The Chimney didn't look like it had been used in a while, and also looked like there was a lot of drifted in snow on it as well. The Mt. Osceola Trail from Osceola towards Tripoli Rd. looked like it hadn't been traveled lately either. Our route looked like it had seen a lot of use lately, and TC reports verify this.

Good Luck on your 48 finish!

Jason, nice shots and TR :D

Yes, the televator songs made the stretch from the Chimney to the main summit go much quicker. Some additional televator songs included:
  • Smooth Televator, by Sade
  • I just want to Televate, by Rare Earth
  • We're riding on the Televator of Life, by Robert Hazard (one hit wonder of the 80's)

On the ride home, I realized we missed an obvious one. What would a wedding reception be without "Televation Time, C'mon"?

Anyway, it was a great hike with you. The views were amazing, the temps were perfect and the food & brews at Woodstock Station were good and cheap (1/2 price appetizers, baby!).

Looking forward to hiking with you again soon

Kool and the Gang?

Hilarious Marty, How could I forget, especially Sade!;)

I forgot to mention that we talked a lot about early 80's music, and I listed off my first vinyl purchases:
  • Stray Cats
  • Scandal featuring Patty Smythe
  • Kool and the Gang: Emergency
  • New Edition
  • Kenny Rogers: The Gambler
Uggghhh.:confused::eek:

Jason, in the interest of full disclosure, my first three 45 rpms were:
  • Over and Over, by the Dave Clark Five
  • Yesterday When I Was Young, by Roy Clark
  • These Eyes, by the Guess Who (with Laughing as the B side)

Guess the folks at VFTT can determine who deserves a bigger Ugghhh.:p

Marty

Glad to here another peak bites the dust, but also you both had
a splendid time out on the O's and terrific conditions. Up here in Vermont
the mountains look a little bit like the view from the slide to Greeley Ponds.

Hope to join you both in March for another pilgrimage to the mountains.

Yours,

RW

Great shot of that chimney spot! I love it when people post helpful bits about the cruxes of trails.

Nice TR and good hokeyness!

"Kenny Rogers"? "Roy Clark"? Wow. No Bay City Rollers or Rick Derringer? Could you at least have had some Lovin' Spoonful or Sam & Dave?

And thanks again for those pics.

Excellent pics from the trail! Thanks for posting.

Hey Marty.. no snow angels? Did Coach Belichick get all over you last time? Fine too steep? We should revisit the rules off-season.

happy trails :)

Ha! No, I learned my lesson on snow angels, but I did get flagged for sliding below the waist. My crampon point caught a snow covered rock while descending a really steep section parallel to the botton of the slide. This caused me to trip and I ended up butt sliding. Thankfully, I was able to steer myself toward a tree, which stopped my descent. Jason was merciful and did not capture that on film.

I don't think the US Forest Service will fine me for this penalty.

Regards,
Marty
