Here's a short video (< 3 min) of a recent three night car camping trip to Baxter with my 18 year old son, who's off to college in a few weeks.

We were originally to have backpacked, the classic Chimney Pond/Davis Pond/Wassataquoik Lake loop, but an untimely foot injury forced us to switch the reservation and "car camp" at Trout Brook Farm instead, and take up a considerably less ambitious hiking agenda.

I was able to hobble up Burnt Mountain, Trout Brook Mountain, and in to Lower and Middle Fowler Ponds, lovely places we wouldn't otherwise have visited. Trout Brook Mountain is particularly beautiful. And we did plenty of paddling on Trout Brook, Matagamon Lake, and the South Branch Ponds.

We've camped, kayaked or backpacked together, just the two of us, every summer since he was very young. I'm sure we will continue to do so. Still this was a bittersweet trip for me.

Thanks guys! w/regard to the brookies, I am an absolute duffer when it comes to catching fish. But perhaps next time I'm at MFP I'll try to flog a few to death with my leader... that's the only way I'd manage to catch one.

I am heading back up to the north end of BSP in a couple weeks. Hoping this time things will fall in place a bit better, and I can try the Traveler Loop.

Wow - looks like a great trip and a very nicely put together video.

My daughter launches next year. It's going to be hard for me.
