Another great day to hike, but more hazy! After a good night's sleep, we were up and raring to go bag Tillotson. This is a great hike from the Frank Post Trail up to the LT. The trail goes up quite gently to the Tillotson camp. From there it is only about 0.6 miles to Tillotson Peak. On our way there we came across a bog of beautiful bottle gentians - a whole wet meadow full of them. They were incredibly beautiful, so yours truly had to get down and photograph them from all angles!
The trail goes to the east of the peak, so when we got to the high point, we headed into the woods and found the high point, which has a nice painted sign.
Took pictures, and started to head down the LT North to go to Haystack. The trail drops down quite steeply, and we were feeling rather lazy, so we climbed back up and headed back to Tillotson Camp.
We met two thru LT hikers, who were delighted that they were almost done. We agreed with them that it seems as if this part of the LT goes up and down constantly, unlike the southern part of the state. We couldn't get over how wet and boggy the trail was. Beaver Meadow on our 8/26 trip was very mucky, and a lot of the LT is also that way due to the heavy rains.
After a leisurely lunch, we headed back to the car, and had a great trip home through beautiful farm county with rolling hills and great mountain views to I-91. What a great part of Vermont!
