Trail Conditions: Patchy snow and ice to start on Avalon Trail, becoming all snow/ice from about 2,200' elevation. Stream crossings had icy rocks. Up to more than a foot of snow at the summit. On all trails the snow was well-packed. Some blowdowns, easily navigated around or over.
Equipment: Poles pretty much essential for stream crossings. Some form of light traction (I used YakTrax) highly recommended. I carried, but did not use, snowshoes and crampons.
Comment: Thank you to the hiker out the same day who stopped along the way to clear many of the smaller blowdowns with his folding saw.
