Trail Conditions; Nice hard pack thru way with some loose snow in places.. some fresh postholing off the sides in spots but the trail was firm.. descent into the gully and then the ascent up to col a bit slick in spots. Mt Tom spur well packed and no problem. First two brook crossings were fine, upper snow bridges all intact.

Special Equipment: I used Kahtoola KTS crampons today from the parking lot..they were excellent all the way.. Poles helpful as always..other than that, had the gear but didn't need it today.

Comments: WOW..what an excellent day in the Whites..probably the day to do Washington or adams but late start sent me to Tom....what about those Patriots.. Trail in excellent shape..lots of people taking advantage of the weather in bare boots, stablicers, full crampons, snow shoes, MSR's,..everything was in evidence. For my own piece of mind the light crampons were perfect..not sure if stablicers would have done it for me on the descent. No need for snow shoes that's for sure as the trail was solid and wide. Terrific views from both viewpoints..30 degrees or so at summit with no wind..just perfect..did I say what an awesome day this was?
