A professor at Skidmore College in Saratoga has studied the Tongue Mt. rattlesnakes for a number of years. His name is Dr. William Brown.

I've heard him speak about the snakes -- very interesting. I've seen rattlers on Tongue and on the Lake George islands in spring and summer. I have not hiked the area in the fall but I do not think that they "hibernate" this early. Guess I'd still want to be careful in the autumn. Maybe Dr. Brown could answer your question.
