I had a similar problem as my torso falls between a Med and Large pack size.
I tried many many packs: Gregory, Dana, Osprey, etc. All very good pack but none fit well. Either too long or too short. So I coughed up the dough for a custom made McHale fit exactly for my back and never looked back. I sold all the other packs and bought a second McHale. One for summer and one for winter. Of course a pack that is long enough to get the hip belt right over your hip bones and the shoulder straps in the right place is relatively long and thus large - 2500 cu in for summer and 3500cuin for winter.
