New owners are going to let hikers use the trail on their land to RI's highest point 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekends, according to an AP report
Jerimoth Hill (elev. 821') will no longer be what the Highpointers Club called "the nation's least accessible high point -- more elusive than dangerous climbs such as 20,320-foot Mount McKinley in Alaska." The new owners have even cleared the trail.

So glad that the new owners have loosened up ON the previous restricitons on Jerimoth Hill.

We live in RI & never realized what an easy "hike" this is.
It is like walking down some-one's driveway.

We've done other RI hikes & were prepared to 'climb' Jerimoth HILL
WELL, the day we went there, half of the driving is in your car
gaining elevation.

Thank you to the new owners for easing up on the the access for others~~~now not an issue---previously a national news item!

That's great. We went back over Memorial weekend-I think it was only open for that weekend then-it was a fun sort of goofy trip. A group of us went and I couldn't believe what an easy quick trip it was--any elevation climb is entirely imperceptible!! But it was an event because there were some representatives from the Highpointers there since it was opened for a short period of time. It was kind of a funny little "adventure", but I'm glad to hear it will be open all weekends now!

I always love the reasons why R.I. makes the news:rolleyes:.

Although, I have to say that our trails are in execellent condition due to the small number of hikers in our state.

This also made the airwaves. Yesterday it was one of the features on NPR's "All Things Considered". The president of the Highpointers was interviewed.
