Last spring while the snow was still on the ground Lauky and I took a trip down to Mt. Kearsarge south. I'd heard a lot about the views and thought it would be an ideal time to take a look. We went to Winslow St. Park which was closed and did the walk up from the gate. Some sections of the trail at that time were a sheet of ice, but the hike went without incident except that the top was fogged in and we couldn't see a thing.

Someone told me I absolutely had to go back on a nice day. It occurred to me that if I went in by Rollins St. park my wife could go and actually get to the summit which would be nice. She wanted to do it and so did my younger daughter who has mild CP. So on Columbus Day off we went.

The book says that the Warner trail is a "virtual walkup". It's true you drive up most of the way. There are only 300 vertical feet left to walk up and the grade is easy. It is, however, a very bony trail which made it very difficult for my daughter. It was a tremendous effort for her and it took us about twice as long the book time but we made it. Both my wife and daughter were very happy and that made it all the better. It was a sweet triumph. The views were great. The trip there and back with peak foliage was also great.

All in all it made for a great day.

Big congrats to your family and especially your daughter. Please tell her that even her minor triumphs are inspiration to others. And that while its good to have an end to journey toward, the journey is all that matters in the end.

Thanks, Ed. I find conquests such as this the most inspiring of all!

Thanks for the kind words. I'll pass them on to my daughter.

Very inspiring story, thank you for sharing it with the group.

Sorry I didn't notice it earlier but I'm very glad to read it now.
