If it ain't snowin' there, we ain't goin' there.
I'm curious to know the experiences of folks who had to make stream crossings yesterday (12/27/09) or today (12/28/09). My lowland walk yesterday in SE NH had to take several detours. There were knee-deep overflows in new spots, rivulets were now brooks, and brooks were now small rivers making a lot of unaccustomed noise in the woods. The local river was at its highest level today that I have ever seen in any season.

As of this writing, I haven't seen any trip reports more recent than 12/26 outings -- hope this isn't because folks had trouble getting out yesterday!

Let us hear your experiences with crossings during and after the rain/melt, either here or in a TR. It might be useful if similar weather conditions appear again -- i.e., frozen ground with rain and/or melting.

For what it's worth, this is an ADK reference and not NH, but it follows similar conditions. Indian Pass brook today, at the crossing between Heart Lake and Street/Nye was sketchy but crossable. I would not have gone on the ice if it were a plunge with grave consequences, but it did hold me and nine other hikers. It looked like the brook had been running right over the ice bridge yesterday.
