Twins and Galehead - 03.04.06

Double Bow, a group of his friends and I hiked up North Twin, South Twin and Galehead yesterday. Great time! Finally, REAL winter conditions!

Yesterday was definitely WINTER!

Good report and pictures. Thanks. I did the same hike a few weeks ago - I think you may have enjoyed more difficult conditions.

Yes it truly was winter up there yesterday. We were part of the group that broke trail for you. An AMC group of 12 and we were followed by a group of three. We started up about an hour before you got going. Nice thing about a large group is everyone has their turn at breaking trail. Still very tough going at times. Drifting snow 3' to 4' in places and tough getting up some of the rock face areas. Windy and cold at the summit with no views.

We ran into Shizzmac at the hut and just missed seeing Swamp Yankee who had just headed down before we got there. A great fun day!

Great pics as always!! Nice TR.
We were up at Carter Dome and Hight and it was sure a wintry mix on top of Hight! The wind gusts nearly toppled us!

[Double Bow]

It was a fun and exciting day out there with a great group of people. It was really nice to need to use snowshoes and even nicer to have the trail somewhat broken out for us. Eric Savage told me that coming down South Twin, he was breaking trail through knee to waist deep powder!

If I had to choose between views and laughs, I'd go with laughs and there were plenty of those. Besides the excellent company and vigorous weather, I enjoyed butt sliding, snowshoe sliding a la Tom Rankin, and doing "The Gumby".



Jamie, thanks for doing the TR and making this trip so much fun! We'll definately have to get out together again sometime! Love the B&Ws.

J&J, I can't believe that we almost met up on the trail AGAIN! We seem to have a knack for hiking the same mountains on the same day. OK, for my next hike, I'm thinking of a mountain... concentrate... got it? OK. I'll see you there!

great pictures...I've been wanting to do this exact hike all winter but keep missing the opportunity with other hiking plans...so many mountains to hike, just not enought days to hike them this winter.
