My hunch is that the person(s) who wrote that stuff actually knows the WMNF rather well, and it's done tongue-in-cheek.

nah, this site has stuff for the whole country & it's like cbcbd said w/ the Madlibs reference. They are just using a bunch of templates to parse a gazetteer based on key words (reservoir, mountain, lake, trail, etc.) to use the same phrases over and over again, referencing nearby locations as the crow flies.

I agree with arghman. I tried a trail from my former home in Missouri which runs through river bottomland in the Ozarks and got the same verbiage about great views etc.
