Garfield is now snowshoed to the top. funny thing..at the bottom there was like 2 inches of snow on ice..then the rest of the way it was like early december..8 or so inches of soft snow on the ice. banged my snowshoes on a lot of rocks. more snow up high. EASY grades to garfield ridge..i had never been up this. steep going up to garfield, its not 60 yards left to the summit, maybe 60 feet. no wind all day, except at the top there was a bit. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS out..and VERY cold. the clouds came around so i couldn't see east or west very much..it was very surreal. i was reading you can cross country ski this trail, and i think you absolutely can. it would be a fun easy run down. 3 hours and 10 up, left at 12:10, and 1 hour and 55 down. nice day.

A well known ski trip. Goodman rates it a moderate. I find descending the upper part difficult in typical moderately fast condtions.

Thanks for the snow report--sounds like it needs more before it is skiable.

i think you could just about do it..the rocks were under the snow ..couple more inches WOULD be nice..but doable

Sounds great!

I think Garfield via the Garfield trail is the best value for views in the whites.
Other than West bond it is my favorite view into the Pemi.

Your trip sounded great, I wish my schedule was being more cooperative in allowing me to get out more often this year.

Trip Report
It's not an easy ski down, especially in the narrow sections near the top, but with good snow and the right gear it's a fun run.
