We took advantage of our stay at Moose Brook last week and ventured into western Maine for the first time. Our hike of Goose Eye and Carlo was the perfect introduction and we simply fell in love with this area. Can't wait to get back for more!

Here's the blog post: http://theramblingsblog.blogspot.com/2012/07/venturing-into-maine-goose-eye-and-carlo.html

and a couple of views...

Views north over the Mahoosuc range from Goose Eye summit

Hey don't forget there's some nice stuff south of Carlo too!! ME/NH border, Success summit and historical artifacts, the Success Outlook, even Gentian Pond and shelter if you want to get that far..great alpine area similar to north of Goose Eye (ok more interesting north of the Goose!!) A day hike from Austin Brook trail to the Mahoosuc then down Success Trail is a nice (but not easy)car spot hike.....

Mark,
A great find! Can't say that we've heard of Goose Eye and Carlo. Now we have another hike to put on our list for when we find the time to get over to that area. Another great spot to hike is around Grafton Notch; Old Speck, etc. you and Nat may want to try one day.

Donna:)

Donna, take a look at the map and you'll see Old Speck is closely related to Goose Eye and Carlo. I'll add that it's awesome backpacking through there. :D

And great work by the AMC trail adopters out of the Northern Section of the Mahoosuc Area, to keep those trails in good shape...!

Thanks MJ, I took a look at the map and now realize how close the mountains are to each other. We haven't been to Old Speck since May of '92. Need to get back there again.
