visiting UNH: should I stay in Portsmouth or Dover and should we have a VFTT beer ?

Not an emergency: I've heard (read) decent things about Dover but have never seen any of these towns. Anything I need to know ? Should we have a Portsmouth, Dover or Duham beer night 10/26 ? Thanks.

All are close by, but Portsmouth is much nicer and has a cool downtown area with plenty of bars/restaurants.

They both have their charm. Dover is an old mill city, with mill building, Portsmouth is more of a... port with docks and a waterfront, industrial buildings, shipyard, etc. They both have beautiful parks and a very nice downtown area that have plenty independent shops. There are lots of things to do in both places.

What is influencing your decision? Price? Location? Number of breweries?
